Anemia/Iron Deficiency

Condition in which blood lacks adequate healthy red blood cells. Iron Deficiency Amenia is the most common anemia, caused by insufficient iron and resulting in the body’s inability to make hemoglobin, a substance in red blood cells that allow it to carry oxygen.

Iron Deficiency Anemia is caused by a diet severely low in iron, blood loss or gastrointestinal malabsorption issues.

Symptoms can include fatigue, shortness of breath, pale skin, fast heartrate, cold hands/feet, pica, difficulty concentrating, and swollen tongue.

Medications used to treat:

Mutiple IV iron infusions:

  • Infed/Iron Dextran

  • Ferrlecit/ Ferric Gluconate

  • Venofer/Ferric Sucrose

  • Injectafer/ Ferric Carboxymaltose
