Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura

An immune response against one's platelets causing decrease in number. Platelets clump together to stop bleeding; the decrease can cause easy bruising, bleeding gums, and internal bleeding.

IVIG — used to increase platelet count by interfering with macrophage uptake of autoantibody-coated platelets.
